At the Lakehouse we celebrate the local history and family memories of the property, while expanding our new venue that welcomes everyone with delicious food and excellent service. OUR MISSION is to provide our customers with not only a restaurant, but also a hub where people can come together, make memories, and enjoy the beauty that is Shawnigan Lake.  We will continue to explore and expand our venue offerings and create a place to celebrate, share, and enjoy.

WE VALUE the diverse groups of individuals within our community and beyond, and it is our wish that everyone feel welcome at the Lakehouse. Our casual atmosphere with excellent service makes it easy for all groups to enjoy; Families, friend gatherings, business retreats—all are welcome to come and enjoy everything the Lakehouse at Shawnigan has to offer.

Right in the heart of Shawnigan, the Lakehouse offers stunning lakeside views from the restaurant and three beautiful patios, as well as spacious grounds and a large dock. It is the ideal venue for any occasion.

Shane Clarke & Jill Tulloch

Shane Clarke and Jill Tulloch are owners and proprietors of The Lakehouse at Shawnigan. Both have spent their entire careers in hospitality, working for great companies all along the way. They have specialized in quality products,  great guest experiences and  solid, hands on community relationships. They opened Clarke & Co., a small casual cocktail venue in downtown Victoria, in 2016. They focused on developing a new standard for cocktail and service culture in the community.

Their ambition with The Lakehouse is to provide a place for the community to create new memories while supporting local farmers, businesses and families. They reside right in Shawnigan Lake and are looking forward to welcoming everyone to the Lakehouse, where a world of new, and wonderful, memories is unfolding.

Ryan Bissell

Ryan Bissell is now a Cobble Hill B.C. local. He earned his training at the prestigious Dubrulle Culinary School in Vancouver, B.C. Ryan has had the privilege of working at some of the Sea to Sky corridor’s finest restaurants, including Joe Fortes, Araxi, C restaurant and the Bearfoot Bistro. Chef Bissell is a proven leader in high-volume, high quality dining experiences. He excelled at executive level positions with Whistler/ Blackcomb, The Boathouse Restaurants,The Villa Eyrie and Ulis Restaurant, a White Rock institution known for having the best burger in Vancouver during all 3 years of his tenure.

With a foundation in sustainability, and a preference for locally sourced ingredients, Ryan has honed his craft to deliver truly exquisite service in a variety of settings.  He is thrilled to be sharing his passion and skills right in the heart of the Cowichan Valley, on the shores of Shawinigan Lake.

John Kulwartin

John Kulwartin left his busy musician life in Toronto, relocating to Vancouver Island with his young family. He has over 15 years bartending experience. He has a passion for woodworking, building guitars and, of course, mixing delicious cocktails. He met Shane while working at Clarke and Co. He took care of his toddler during the day, and blazed a delicious trail of classic and inventive, new cocktails by night. Coincidentally, John and Shane both moved up to Shawnigan Lake. John has been renovating and building up The Lakehouse ever since. His woodworking skills have come in handy.

But John is really looking forward to The Lakehouse opening its doors to the public, so that he can get to know his new neighbours and start his new life in the Cowichan Valley, all the while making amazing, and delicious, bar experiences for one and all.

The team and Chef Bissell are firm believers in, and supporters of, their local community.

The lake experience is a prime feature here, and the community is now able to come in for some dining fun, creating great memories, sharing a bottle or two and tasting the best of what Cowichan Valley’s producers provide, all put together under the skilled and passionate hands of Chef Bissell.
