At the Lakehouse we celebrate the local history and family memories of the property, while expanding our new venue that welcomes everyone with delicious food and excellent service. OUR MISSION is to provide our customers with not only a restaurant, but also a hub where people can come together, make memories, and enjoy the beauty that is Shawnigan Lake. Jill Tulloch, owner and operator of The Lakehouse at Shawnigan, has spent her entire career in hospitality, working for 5-star resorts and hotels along the way. She has specialized in quality products, great guest experiences and hands on community relationships. Jill opened Clarke & Co., a unique craft cocktail venue in downtown Victoria in 2016, where the focus is on exceptional cocktail service culture in the community.
Her ambition with The Lakehouse is to create a place for the community to gather while supporting local farmers, businesses and families. She resides right in Shawnigan Lake and continues to look forward to welcoming everyone to the Lakehouse, where a world of new, and wonderful, memories is unfolding.
Ryan Bissell is now a Cobble Hill B.C. local. He earned his training at the prestigious Dubrulle Culinary School in Vancouver, B.C. Ryan has had the privilege of working at some of the Sea to Sky corridor’s finest restaurants, including Joe Fortes, Araxi, C restaurant and the Bearfoot Bistro. Chef Bissell is a proven leader in high-volume, high quality dining experiences. He excelled at executive level positions with Whistler/ Blackcomb, The Boathouse Restaurants,The Villa Eyrie and Ulis Restaurant, a White Rock institution known for having the best burger in Vancouver during all 3 years of his tenure.
With a foundation in sustainability, and a preference for locally sourced ingredients, Ryan has honed his craft to deliver truly exquisite service in a variety of settings. He is thrilled to be sharing his passion and skills right in the heart of the Cowichan Valley, on the shores of Shawinigan Lake.
Vancouver Island, born and raised, Lisa Bissell returned to the Island in 2018 after spending 12 years away. During this time, Lisa’s passion for customer service led her to many exciting management opportunities in the Food and Beverage field. Wanting to expand her skillset, Lisa studied Marketing and Event Management, which introduced her to a career in Event Catering, managing the VIP Service and Catering for Squamish Valley Music Festival and a variety of music festivals and additional events to come.
Eventually finding herself in Whistler, Lisa honed her marketing and communication skills as the Sales & Marketing Coordinator for the luxurious Scandinave Spa. However, not even the breathtaking and relaxing facilities at the Scandinave, nor Whistler’s stunning mountain vistas could keep Lisa from dreaming of returning home to Vancouver Island. Lisa and Ryan settled on the expansive Cowichan Valley as their new home, impressed by the local farms, wineries, breweries and producers. Upon joining the opening team at the Lakehouse at Shawnigan, Lisa found the opportunity to get involved and connect with the local community, an opportunity she remains grateful for in her current role as General Manager.
The team and Chef Bissell are firm believers in, and supporters of, their local community.
The lake experience is a prime feature here, and the community is now able to come in for some dining fun, creating great memories, sharing a bottle or two and tasting the best of what Cowichan Valley’s producers provide, all put together under the skilled and passionate hands of Chef Bissell.
